How does the camera survive the intense heat and steam near the smelt spouts?
Syn-Fab Sentinel cameras deployed on the spout deck are equipped with extreme-duty enclosures, active cooling systems, and continuous air-purging. The high-velocity air barrier keeps the camera lens clear of steam and corrosive splashing, while the cooling system protects the electronics from the high ambient heat of the recovery boiler.
Can the camera help prevent smelt spout blockages?
Yes. Continuous, high-resolution monitoring allows operators in the control room to easily see if a spout is beginning to freeze over, if the smelt flow is slowing, or if a "jellyroll" is forming. By catching these issues early, operators can take action (such as manually rodding the spout) before a full blockage occurs.
Where are smelt spout cameras typically mounted?
Our cameras are typically mounted on the wall or structure opposite the recovery boiler, giving a clear, direct view of the spouts and the hood openings above the dissolving tank.
